The Planning Commission is looking at standardising three processes it has developed while working on the 12th Plan, so that the new Commission that would take over after the elections can continue using them.

Rethink on premium highway restructuring
The C Rangarajan Committee, which was set up in October this year, made some key recommendations to be submitted to the Highway Ministry that include rescheduling of premium that road developers are liable to pay to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and some breather from penalty norms.

Govt to miss targets to complete big infra projects
For the current financial year, the government will not meet its infrastructure investment target as hardly any progress made in five of the nine projects identified by the Planning Commission in consultation with the Prime Minister's Office.
PMGSY helps to develop rural economy
In the year 2000, the Union government launched the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to connect IndiaÂ’s smaller villages to nearby towns, all through the country. The ministry of rural development has been in charge of the scheme, with the Planning Commission playing its usual role.
State level regulator for water sector soon
With an aim to put more emphasis on water conservation the government chalks out plan to create state level regulator for water. The said regulator will be in charge to manage stress of future water requirements, said a senior Planning commission official.
Inland port proposed in Sahebganj of Jharkhand
The proposal to build an inland port on the Subernarekha river in Sahebganj in Jharkhand has been said to be cleared by the Planning Commission. The proposed project is expected to transform the economy of the mineral-rich state by providing the stateÂ’s first-ever river outlet for mining exports.
Contract renegotiation may be a reality
The government is considering the introduction of a force majeure clause in public-private partnership projects to allow renegotiation of contracts to revive private participation in infrastructure development and salvage some big-ticket projects.
