There is definitely going be a short-term impact of demonetisation on the industry. The November 2016 sales of two-wheelers, four-wheelers and the automotive industry in general has taken a beating.

The government's highly motivated optimism on SEZs is not reflected among the practitioners, and it should come as small surprise that after a lengthy wild goose chase by our office, the Commerce Ministry officials kept bouncing us around from bureaucrat to another, confusing matters, and in effect dodging hard questions.

Budget Reactions 2011
Service tax exemption of 25 per cent from taxable value is being provided to services of transport of coastal goods and goods transported through national waterways or inland water with no CENVAT credit of taxes paid on inputs, input services and capital goods. The effective service tax rate is 7.725 per cent.
