Tendering for the first Ă´smart, theme cityĂ´ project of the West Bengal government is expected to begin next month. Of the six proposed cities, bidding process will begin with the one at Baruipur (some 30 km west of Kolkata). Baruipur is being themed as a senior citizenĂ´s city.

WB government proposes to introduce inland waterways services
The West Bengal government has proposed to introduce inland waterways services along 12 rivers to reduce congestion on roads, the measure being fuel efficient, cost effective and eco-friendly.
Addl land for NTPC project
The West Bengal government decided to allot an additional 98 acre land and provide coal linkage with riders to NTPCĂ´s proposed 1,600 MW plant, clearing two major hurdles for the project. This would help remove uncertainty over implementation of the proposed project at Katwa in Burdwan district, she said after a Cabinet meeting held outside Kolkata for the first time.
West Bengal may get Rs 1,500 cr from HPL stake sale
From the sale of its stake in Haldia Petrochemicals (HPL), the West Bengal government is expecting to earn more than Rs 1,500 crore in spite of accumulated losses and erosion of more than 50 per cent of the net worth of the petrochemical firm.
