Tata Power has received a letter of award from the Solar Energy Corp. of India Ltd (SECI) for the supply of 324 MW power from its 1,000 MW pumped hydro storage project (PSP) at Bhivpuri in Raigad district, Maharashtra.
The project was secured under SECIâs tariffâbased global competitive bidding for the supply of 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh of power from pumped hydro storage projects being developed across the country. It was won through an eâreverse auction and carries a 40âyear pumped storage purchase agreement, with commissioning targeted for 2029.
âThe SECI award further strengthens Tata Powerâs position in longâduration energy storageâa segment central to integrating Indiaâs fastâgrowing solar and wind capacity into the grid by converting surplus daytime generation into firm, dispatchable, roundâtheâclock power,â the company said in a statement on Monday.
The Bhivpuri project will be developed under the buildâownâoperate (BOO) model and will provide eight hours of energy storage, enabling reliable dispatch of electricity during peak demand periods. It will be connected to the 765/400 kV South Kalamb (CTU) Substation, part of the interstate transmission system.
The awarded capacity forms part of Tata Powerâs 1,000 MW Bhivpuri PSP, one of two large pumped storage developments the company is advancing in the Western Ghats, alongside the 1,800 MW Shirwata PSP, giving it a combined pipeline of 2,800 MW. The award aligns with Tata Powerâs broader cleanâenergy strategy and its Net Zero 2045 ambition.
Tata Powerâs clean and green portfolio now stands at 17.5 GW, including a 9.6 GW pipeline, of which 2.8 GW is pumped storage.
