Uncertainty over Gurgaon’s longest flyover project

The longest flyover project in Gurgaon to provide a signal-free ride between Rajiv Chowk and Mahavir Chowk in Gurgaon is likely to be scrapped. A high-level meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) may scrap the project.

A meeting between MCG engineers and RITES officials on January 15 discussed the projectÂ’s feasibility. The core agenda of the meeting was whether the flyover, to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 250 crore, would provide a signal-free drive on the stretch.

The engineers discussed the problem of traffic and zeroed in on the fact that the current traffic chaos was mainly due to poor traffic management and encroachments.

The flyover will pass through thickly-populated areas and multiple junctions from different directions will merge under it. The percentage of commuters using the flyover is less compared to those who are expected to use the surface, said a senior MCG official. The engineers said discussions were underway regarding the flyover project.

Sources said the MCG had sent the feasibility report to RITES about two months ago.
