Vedanta Group said it generated and utilised nearly 4 billion units of clean energy in FY2025‑26, reaffirming its commitment to nature‑positive growth. The company marked World Nature Conservation Day on Tuesday by highlighting progress on decarbonisation, water stewardship and biodiversity conservation.
“This has contributed to 36 million tonnes of cumulative avoided carbon emissions since FY2020‑21, equivalent to taking nearly 8 million passenger vehicles off the road for a year,” Vedanta said in a statement. “Through its integrated ESG strategy, Vedanta is accelerating decarbonisation while advancing responsible water stewardship, ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation, supporting India’s climate and environmental ambitions.”

Vedanta reiterated its goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 or sooner, supported by a four‑pronged decarbonisation strategy: operational efficiency, cleaner fuels, renewable adoption and nature‑based carbon sequestration.
The group said it has embedded responsible water stewardship across operations, developing more than 100 conservation structures, including rainwater harvesting systems, check dams and settling ponds. In FY2025‑26, Vedanta recycled and reused over 85 million cubic metres of water—enough to meet the annual domestic needs of nearly 5 million households—achieving nearly 40 per cent water recycling across operations.
Nature Conservation
Vedanta has planted more than 4 million trees since 2021 and joined the World Economic Forum’s 1t.org initiative to help conserve and grow one trillion trees globally.
“Across several locations, the company has also adopted the Miyawaki afforestation model, using native species to create dense, self‑sustaining forests that accelerate ecosystem recovery while enhancing biodiversity,” the statement said.
Biodiversity assessments across operational sites have enabled location‑specific management plans aligned with its ‘No Net Loss and Net Positive Impact’ roadmap. Initiatives include habitat enhancement, wetland restoration, mangrove conservation, elephant corridor protection, invasive species management and long‑term ecological monitoring supported by Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping and community participation.
