The World Bank-aided projects to modernise inland water transport in Assam were reviewed by state Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary with representatives from the World Bank.
In a move to modernise the inland water transport in the state, the World Bank has initiated Rs 10 billion aid for development of its water terminals, river front and jetties.
The meeting discussed about the development of five port-based cities at Jogighopa, Neamatighat, Dibrugarh, Biswanath and Silchar. The ports will be a multi-modal hub with storage and cargo handling facilities.
