As on 1 December 2012, there were 566 projects on the monitor of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Of these, 270 projects were delayed with respect to their original schedules of commissioning. This information was given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena in the Parliament.

The ministry monitors the central sector Infrastructure Projects costing Rs 150 crore and above on the basis of information supplied by the project implementing agencies. The ministry gave technical support to a Study on Project Schedule and Cost Overruns conducted by Project Management Institute (PMI) – India and KPMG in 2011-12.
