The Karnataka state government is mulling to attract investment worth Rs 10,000 crore in the aerospace sector by the end of next year, as it sees Bangalore emerging as a major aerospace hub. Currently it has an investment proposal worth Rs 5,000 crore in the sector and is looking to double it to Rs 10,000 crore by the end of next year. The state government is setting up Bangalore Aerospace Park (BAP) over 985 acre, next to Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) which would comprise of 252 acre SEZ, an initiative of joint task force on Aerospace with CII Karnataka. A technology innovation centre and country specific aerospace clusters are proposed in this facility. An in-principle approval for a direct connection between BIAL and BAP was announced with 60 acre allotted to BIAL for cargo handling for aerospace. About 28 aerospace companies have already been allotted land in the BAP. The BAP will be operational in two to three years.
