Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily informed that his vision is to make India self-sufficient in the consumption of petroleum products by 2030.

He said there is a need to have patience to research the country’s oil reserves. He said this to reporters after laying foundation stone for the transport hub of HPCL in Mangalore. The transport hub facility by HPCL in Mangalore is spread over 660 sq metre of area.

Meanwhile, Moily said he would ask oil companies to set up such hubs for their drivers and cleaners at the loading locations. It provides facilities such as dormitories, medical room, library, yoga and meditation centres, convenience store and wash room.

The minister said lorry drivers who transport petroleum products to various destinations, will have to stay back for three-four days at the loading destinations. Transport hub would provide hundreds of truck drivers and cleaners with comfort and convenience in their stressful life.

Speaking about its Mangalore LPG import facility, Roy Choudhary, Chairman of HPCL said the facility is spread over 176 acre of land and handled around 1.6 million tonne of LPG in 2011-12.

It caters to the needs of domestic and commercial consumers in the region. The transport hub is the first-of-its-kind in southern India, he added.
