At a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to
begin work on the first phase of the Lucknow metro rail project on North-South corridor.

The project would be implemented on the lines of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

The state government formed the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) to oversee the construction work and finalise the logo. The first phase of the metro will cover 23 km in the city.

Recently, the LMRC invited people to design logo for the project. It also announced Rs 20,000 award for the best designed logo. The decision has been taken to ensure public participation in the metro project and to get the best possible design.

LMRC wants people to design the logo keeping in mind history and culture of Lucknow and also modern advancements taking place in the country. The designed logo can be sent through email to LNRC by July 15. A committee will examine the entries and select the best logo, reports indicate.
