Delhi government plans to integrate the upcoming Kashmere Gate Metro station with the existing station as well as the inter-state bus terminal (ISBT).
For this purpose, the state government decided not to continue with the second phase of renovations of the ISBT. The second phase of the renovations at the ISBT included a hotel and an underground parking lot at the bus terminus.
The authorities delayed ISBT renovations by a year and this led to a 10 percent escalation in cost for the government, reports indicate.
Kashmere Gate is the last station of the Delhi Metro’s Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate corridor. Delhi government’s rapid rail transit system (RRTS) is also expected to have a station at the Kashmere Gate ISBT.
Besides this, the second phase included a vast number of refurbishments for the Kashmere Gate ISBT. The state government planned to set up a three-level underground parking lot, a hotel, smooth integration with the neighbouring Metro station and a dedicated city bus network (DTC depot).
The ISBT was inaugurated only a few months ago. The first phase of renovation included airconditioned waiting lounge, food court, glass lifts, and other features that were added in the first phase, The first phase also saw structural.
The entire project was to cost Rs 125 crore, with the first phase expected to be completed in Rs 75 crore.
