The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned work order for reconstruction of Kalpi Road (National Highway -25) Kanpur between Jarib Chauky and Vijay Nagar Crossing. Historic Kalpi Road connects Kanpur to Jhansi and is a part of the National Highway -25. The State Public Works Department (PWD) in Kanpur had sent a proposal in this regard to its headquarter.
As per the proposal, reconstruction of the road is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
The road project will cost Rs 8.56 crore and will cover the construction of a six-lane road along with a divider.
Dotted with potholes and craters, the road at present is in a very bad shape in the city. At many places it has been dug-up and not repaired. Besides, several pot-holes, encroachments, heaps of garbage and illegal parking has made it difficult to commute on this road. The Jal Nigam has dug up the road and did not bother to level the road after the digging work. This has made it difficult to move on the road. The road will be reconstructed under the trade development fund.
The divisional commissioner Mahesh Kumar Gupta had directed the officials to vacate the footpath from vehicle repairing shops so that new road could be laid down there.
