The Tamil Nadu government has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to hold the Rs 1,800 crore 19-km Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Elevated Express Corridor project as the NHAI has deviated from the approved alignment. The project is on hold since April 2012. Now, the port users say they will face huge hardships if Chennai Port-MaduraÂvoÂyal elevated corridor project is not implemented.
A customs house agent said that already due to connectivity problems, the CPT has not received any bidders for the mega container terminal and dry port projects.
If the government scraps the elevated corridor project, users of CPT will have to think about moving to Kattupalli and Ennore ports. The Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project (EMRIP) would only help transport half the cargo handled at the city port.
