The much-delayed link road between Begumpet and Balkampet should be completed by 25 May, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has said. The commissioner expressed confidence that the ‘hanging bridge’, which is now being used as a parking place for private vehicles, will connect the two parts of the city by May 25 without fail.
This is an important link road, which has flyover and a Road Under Bridge (RUB). The road was sanctioned in 2005 and work started in 2007. The total cost of the project is Rs 42 crore and the Road Under Bridge costing Rs 13.36 crore was taken up by South Central Railway.
The link road was delayed due to problems in acquisition of properties in Customs Basti, Indira Gandhipuram and Suprabhat Nagar; delay in construction of the RUB; shifting of utilities like power lines, water supply and sewer lines and presence of heavy sheet rock at the alignment of the bridge and the approaches.
