With the demand for power rising up to 12,500 MW, the Punjab Government has decided to restart the operations at two thermal units of Ropar power plant. Also, the demand from the irrigation sector has resulted in PSPCL crossing 13,000 MW mark. The two units of the Ropar plant along with the four units of the Bathinda thermal power plant had been shut down early this year as these units had outlived their lives and the cost of generating power was higher as compared to the power available in the open market.
