The membership also enhances the airline’s role in shaping global aviation policy, with active collaboration on sustainability, digital transformation, and passenger rights.

Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of national carrier Air India, has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking a strategic step in aligning with global best practices in safety, operations, and customer experience.

The development comes as India’s fastest-growing airline continues to expand its fleet, network, and partnerships. With a growing fleet of 115 aircraft, Air India Express operates over 500 daily flights, connecting 41 domestic and 17 international destinations across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.

IATA represents more than 350 airlines from over 120 countries, accounting for over 80 per cent of global air traffic. A prerequisite for membership is registration under the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)—the global benchmark for airline operational safety. Airlines must comply with over 900 rigorous standards to qualify. Air India Express has been IOSA-registered since 2017.

“We welcome Air India Express into the IATA family. Having them as a member broadens the perspectives we can bring to global aviation issues,” said Sheldon Hee, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific.

Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, added, “As we continue to grow our footprint, IATA membership is an additional step to ensure that every journey is supported by the highest standards of reliability, safety, and convenience.”

For passengers, the membership enables Air India Express to contribute to shaping global standards and policies that enhance the travel experience. It also facilitates smoother interline partnerships, access to global distribution systems, and participation in IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plans (BSP), extending the airline’s reach through IATA-accredited travel agents worldwide.

Additional benefits include access to IATA’s training and consultancy services, benchmarking tools, and policy forums that support operational excellence and regulatory alignment. The membership also strengthens the airline’s ability to engage in global aviation dialogue and collaborate on sustainability, digital transformation, and passenger rights.

As part of the Tata Group’s broader aviation strategy, the move reinforces Air India Express’ ambition to become a globally respected carrier, underpinned by international standards and a customer-first ethos.
