Located in one of India’s highest solar irradiance zones, the Barmer project is set to deliver dependable clean power to a region where rising energy demand and economic growth go hand in hand.

French energy services group ENGIE has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 100 MW solar photovoltaic project in Barmer, Rajasthan. The project, expected to be commissioned in 2027, marks a strategic addition to ENGIE’s growing portfolio in the state, which now approaches 1 GW.

Located in one of India’s highest solar irradiance zones, the Barmer project is designed to deliver dependable, clean power to a region witnessing rising energy demand and economic growth. ENGIE said the site offers ideal conditions and strong infrastructure connectivity, reinforcing Rajasthan’s role in India’s utility-scale solar push.

Amit Jain, CEO & Country Manager, ENGIE India, said the agreement reflects the company’s deepening partnership with SECI and its commitment to disciplined execution and long-term performance.

“Our priority is deep local integration in Rajasthan and building infrastructure that delivers enduring value for communities, the economy and India’s energy future,” he said.

ENGIE’s India portfolio now stands at 2.5 GW across 23 renewable energy projects in seven states, with over 300 MW already operational in Rajasthan. The company has previously delivered landmark solar assets, including the 200 MW Raghnesda plant in Gujarat, commissioned during the pandemic; the 250 MW Kadapa project in Andhra Pradesh, which integrates advanced inverter technology; and the 140 MW Bhadla project in Rajasthan, which uses robotic, water-free cleaning systems to set new benchmarks for desert-based solar operations.
