After BRICS member states adopted a declaration on the alternate dispute resolution (ADR) framework, Law & Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal pedalled with delegates in Gandhinagar to promote sustainability.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, joined BRICS delegates and officers of the Department of Legal Affairs in a cycling activity in Gandhinagar on Friday morning.

The initiative reinforced a collective commitment to environmental consciousness, pollution control, sustainable development, reduced fuel consumption, and the spirit of shram daan (voluntary labour). By choosing cycling as a symbolic act, the participants highlighted the importance of low‑carbon mobility and shared responsibility in advancing India’s green transition.

Meghwal was in Gandhinagar to chair a meeting of BRICS member states on the alternate dispute resolution (ADR) framework. On Thursday, the assembly adopted the ā€˜Declaration of the Ministers of Justice of the BRICS Countries on Strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution through Capacity Building in Mediation and Arbitration’.

The declaration, finalised during the senior BRICS officials’ meeting on May 19-20, reflects a shared commitment to expand mediation and arbitration across member countries. Law ministers from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, and the UAE participated in the meeting. Its adoption highlights BRICS members’ collective vision to make mediation and arbitration more accessible and effective as preferred mechanisms for resolving disputes, thereby reducing the burden on courts and fostering a stable environment for trade and investment.
