India’s largest integrated power utility says the initiative reflects its commitment to expanding its energy portfolio and deepening industry partnerships.

NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated power utility, has invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from commercial and industrial entities willing to invest 26 per cent equity in co‑generation projects. The initiative aims to develop facilities that simultaneously produce steam and electricity, offering industries integrated power supply solutions based on coal, renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

With industries increasingly focused on energy security, cost optimisation and sustainability, co‑generation provides a pathway to enhance efficiency by reducing fuel losses and meeting dual energy needs through a single system. NTPC said the initiative reflects its commitment to expanding its energy solutions portfolio and strengthening partnerships with industries.

“This initiative reflects NTPC’s commitment to expanding its energy solutions portfolio and strengthening partnerships with industries. By leveraging its expertise in power generation and exploring innovative energy supply models, NTPC aims to support industrial growth while contributing to energy efficiency, sustainability and energy transition objectives,” the company said in a statement.

The programme aligns with the Central Government’s plans for integrated energy supply frameworks, improved industrial efficiency and faster decarbonisation through renewable integration and advanced technologies such as BESS.

NTPC currently operates an installed capacity of over 91 GW, with more than 35 GW under construction. The company is targeting 149 GW of total capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources. Its portfolio spans thermal, hydro, solar and wind power, ensuring reliable and affordable electricity supply.

Beyond conventional generation, NTPC has diversified into e‑mobility, storage, waste‑to‑energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen solutions, positioning itself as a key player in India’s energy transition.
