Recently, the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) was commissioned in Agra airport enabling it to provide horizontal and vertical guidance to landing and taking off aircraft.

The new system would enable airlines to carry out aircraft operations even with a visibility as low as 800 metre. The ILS will be particularly helpful during the winter season when fog-induced problems like low visibility hits flight operations.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) maintains a civilian enclave at the Agra Airport, which is an Air Force Airport, in order to provide facilities for scheduled passenger aircraft operations.

AAI so far had VOR facility at the Airport for homing and landing of aircraft in visibility up to 2,400 metre. The new facility will considerably improve the connectivity of Agra with other cities and is expected to boost tourism, said a release issued by the press information bureau.
