Adani bags coal import contract from WBPDCL

Adani group has bagged a contract from West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), for importing one million tonne of Indonesian thermal coal over the next year. Though WBPDCL, which operates 4,170 MW power plants, has imported coal in piecemeal basis in the past, this is the largest import contract awarded by company. The utility is the single largest source of power to West Bengal and requires approximately 15 million tonnes of coal a year. The imported coal will be used for blending with the allotted low-value supplies from Coal India. Apart from imports, Adani is also trying to enter into a contract with Eastern Coalfields for the supply of approximately one million tonne of high-grade coal at import parity prices.
