IFC to submit report on Vizhinjam Port project
Agency reports indicate that the International Finance Corporation (IFC) would soon submit the environment impact assessment (EIA) report for the proposed Vizhinjam Port. Part of the World Bank Group, IFC is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries
Paradip Port awards Rs 210 cr contracts to Mercator
Odisha-based Paradip Port Trust awarded two contracts worth Rs 210 crore to the diversified conglomerate Mercator Group. In a communication to Bombay Stock Exchange, Mercators said the contracts pertain to maintenance dredging of the approach and extended approach channel
Govt hopes to award 6,000 km contracts under EPC mode
The Union government would be able to give contracts for more than 6,000 km this fiscal on getting certain procedural approvals, said the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister CP Joshi on January 28. Under the EPC model (engineering, procurement and construction), the government spends the entire money required to build roads which would be instrumental in attracting builders who are at present shying away from highways projects for want of funds, he said.
Hyd’s Zohrabi-Dargah stretch to be widened for easy ride
In Hyderabad, motorists travelling to Charminar from areas such as Phoolbagh would become a smooth ride as the process for the much awaited road widening work along the Zohrabi Dargah-DRDL junction stretch has begun. Bottlenecks along the stretch will now be cleared giving way to an 80-feet wide road.
Road contractors may be given more time to get funds
In a bid to prevent the exodus of private road contractors from highway projects, the Union government plans to extend the time required for road contractors to achieve financial closure. This is in case there is a delay in getting the required government clearances.
Nashik’s Trimbak Road to get 8.5 km cycle track
For easy pedalling of cyclists the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to develop an 8.5 km bicycle track along Trimbak Road in the city by spending Rs 25 crore. The work includes widening of the road and the bicycle tract will be the first such track in the city.
HUDA’s demolition drive for road project faces protest
In Gurgaon, a team of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) officials, set out to demolish a factory, which had come in the way of the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) project, had to face the ire of the angry residents of New Palam Vihar Colony on January 25. The demolition team had landed at Sector 37 part two for the demolition of the factory. They had to make a hasty retreat from the site when the residents became angry.
Work paced up on flyover in Chennai
In Chennai, traffic chaos in the northern neighbourhood is set to ease soon as the flyover in Vyasarpadi that will connect Chennai with the Kolkata highway (NH5) is nearing completion. The four-lane flyover under construction is a ĆāYĆā-shaped facility similar to the flyover at Rangarajapuram in T. Nagar.
Jammu’s Mughal Road project deadline extended to May
The Rs 640 crore Mughal Road project, which connects the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region with the Kashmir Valley has been delayed. The road project is is now five years behind schedule. Now, the new deadline has been set for May.
