RBI norms for lending to small units

In view of the increase in price index and cost inputs, Reserve Bank of India revised sub-targets for lending to the micro and small enterprises sector. According to the new norms, banks must divert 40 per cent of total advances to the sector to micro (manufacturing) enterprises having investment in plant and machinery up to Rs 10 lakh. Kolkata Port investment plan

In order to reverse the decline in cargo traffic at Kolkata Port, the authority planned to invest Rs 15,000 crore on various development projects till the end of the 12th Five Year Plan (2016-17). Cargo handling at the port declined to 43.245 million tonne (mn t) in 2011-12 compared to 47.545 mn t in the previous fiscal. The decline is attributed mainly to a fall in liquid bulk as also in crude oil movement.

Reports suggest that the government plans to double the offer to landowners who sell land for private projects. Acc­ording to a provision, which may be included in the revised land bill, land owners may be offered 40 per cent (instead of the earlier 20 percent) of deve­loped land (in proportion to what they lost and at a price equal to the cost of acquisition and development). This might be doubled in the version to be presented in Parliament.
