Govt asks power firms to sign FSAs within a month

One month deadline has been given to the public sector power companies to sign fuel supply agreements (FSAs) with Coal India (CIL). The deadline has been set up by the Prime MinisterÂ’s Office (PMO) on December 17. The PSUs include NTPC and it they fail to meet the deadline the FSAs would be withdrawn, the PMO has warned.
Sources told a leading news agency that the PMO has asked Power Ministry to direct power PSUs to sign fuel supply agreements (FSAs) with CIL within a month from December 17.

Tata Power to modernise Trombay thermal plant

Tata Power has proposed modernisation of its 500 MW Unit 6 at Trombay Thermal Power Station. The plan includes addition of coal firing equipment and installation of pollution control equipment
to make the unit work on coal, oil and gas, wherein all three fuels can be combined in any percentage.
This is being done to control spiralling oil cost, the company said. The proposed modernisation will improve utilisation of full capacity of 500 MW. It will also reduce fuel cost and help lower tariffs

SuzlonÂ’s arm wins order in Canada

For delivery of 51 wind turbines, Suzlon Group subsidiary, REpower Systems SE has concluded a contract with wpd Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of project developer wpd AG, the company announced. As part of this, a service and maintenance agreement (ISP) for a total of 15 years for the new projects was also concluded, the company said in a statement. The REpower MM92 turbines, each with a rated power of 2.05 MW, are intended for six projects to be constructed and commissioned in 2014.

India may face coal shortage of 185 mn t during the 12th five-year plan as power capacity addition outpaces growth in coal production.
It is learnt that coal production by the terminal year of the 12th Plan may touch 795 mn t. During the 11th Plan, coal production was increased by 110 mn t and there was a gap of 140 mn t.
