US infra mission coming to India
The US Commerce Secretary, John Bryson, has said that he would lead an infrastructure focused trade mission to India this month.Bryson would be travelling to New Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai, during which the US mission would seem a greater American pie to the estimated $1 trillion investment that India is seeking in the infrastructure sector.
Mining of minor minerals
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre and state governments to implement strict regulations within six months to govern mining of minor minerals as recommended by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.The order could affect the construction sector as it uses minor minerals such as sand, gravel and boulders.
Officials meet stakeholders
The senior officials of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry met key stakeholders of the industry to discuss issues and also to evolve consensus on the new Civil Aviation Policy. At the meeting, it was decided that all stakeholders shoÂuld provide their opinion on the proposed policy by mid-February.
Panel clears Master List
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure approved the framework for using the harmonised Master List of infrastructure sub-sectors.Harmonisation of the existing definitions of infrastructure sectors will facilitate a coordinated approach, among agencies providing support to infrastructure, and thus spur infrastructure development.
Regulator for oil and gas fields proposed
A Group of Ministers (GoM) on corruption has asked the government to create an independent regulator for oil and gas fields. The GoM has proposed that the new regulator should take over critical functions of the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons(DGH),which reports to the Oil Ministry and is its technical arm for issues involving oil and gas exploration and production contracts.
AP plans policy on regional airports
The Andhra Pradesh government plans to unveil a policy for development of regional green field airports in the state by June, according to the Minister for Infrastructure, Ganta Srinivasa Rao.The policy would deal with single-window clearance, connectivity both rail and road, incentives for development and issues relating to land allocation for the new projects.
Study to streamline upstream regulatory system
In order to revamp the regulatory system of the country’s upstream oil companies, the government plans to commission a study of 10 upstream regulatory agencies from various countries in different continents and suggest steps to design the most suitable for India.
Govt sets up Land Ports Authority of India
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has notified establishment of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) with effect from March 1, this year under the Land Ports Authority of India Act, 2010.The Authority comprises a Chairman and two whole-time Members and will have representation of officials concerned from the Centre and the states.
IDFC PE to invest in Staragri
IDFC Private Equity will invest Rs 150 crore in Jaipur based Staragri Warehousing and Collateral Management.Staragri proposes to utilise the fund to expand its warehousing capacity to 30 lakh tonne in three years from the current 10 lakh tonne.The company will target to set up warehouses at taluk level in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
