CPT’s new bagging system
Cochin Port Trust (CPT) will introduce an automated bagging system of cargoes.About 2,400 tonne of cargo could be bagged on a daily basis through the new arrangement.This is in view of the severe shortage of workers experienced in certain areas of cargo handling at the port.
US cos concerned with congested Indian ports
For the US companies operating in India the country’s infrastructure and congestion at Indian ports is a matter of concern, US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco J Sanchez said.Sanchez said that he will share the concerns of US companies in India about the port infrastructure.
Chennai Port stops coal, iron ore cargo handling
The Chennai Port has stopped handling coal and iron ore cargoes as per the directive of the Madras High Court.As a result, the port will lose revenues to the tune of Rs 225 crore which it earned last year by handling 18 mt of coal and iron ore cargoes, according to the Shipping Minister.

APSEZ to develop Kandla terminal
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has received the letter of intent from the Kandla Port Trust (KPT) to set up a dry bulk terminal at the Kandla Port on BOT basis.The company has emerged as the highest bidder on revenue share basis and has been awarded the concession in a competitive bidding scenario.
BHEL bags ONGC order
BHEL has secured Rs 774 crore contract from ONGC to supply onshore drilling rigs. The order envisages supply of six onshore drilling rigs with AC drives.The equipment will be manufactured by BHEL’s Hyderabad plant, while the electrics will be manufactured by the company’s Bhopal plant.
Medium-Term Gas Imports
GAIL (India) is looking at medium-term imported contracts to meet the growing gas demand amidst limited domestic supplies. Medium-term contracts are for one to 12 months.The company is looking at Russia, West Asia, and South-East Asia for sourcing liquefied natural gas.
Addl Oil from Saudi
India has sought an additional 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Saudi Arabia for 2012-13 as a replacement for a cut in supplies from sanctions-hit Iran.Saudi Arabia is the biggest oil supplier to India, the world’s fourth-biggest oil consumer, and is the only oil producer with significant spare capacity to replace any fall in supply from its regional rival Iran.
