Adani Enterprises has signed five agreements with NTPC for supply of imported coal. Adani will supply 4 million tonne of coal imported from global sources between March to June 2012 to NTPC’s 14 power stations across India.The imported coal is required to meet the coal blending reÂquiÂreÂments of the NTPC power stations.

Board clears Rs 72 bn power projects
According to a company filing, the board of directors of PowerGrid Corp cleared an investment of Rs 3,201.44 crore for transmission system for phase-I generation projects in Jharkhand and West Bengal.The project is part of the Rs 7,209.65 crore investment proposal approved by the board.

Samalkot project phase1 by March
The 2,400-mw Samalkot power project would be executed in a record time of 15 months.The open cycle (1,450 mw) the first phase of the project, will be commissioned by March 2012, according to the company.The entire project would be fully commissioned in December 2012.

Captive power projects face coal shortage
Captive power plants are struggling to implement their expansion plan because of coal shortage.Jindal Power, which supplies power to Jindal Power and Steel (JSPL) wants to add another 2,400 mw non-captive capacity by 2015.Yet, it is unable to lock-in coal supply for even half of this capacity.

GQ projects by 2012
The Union government is expecting to complete the road work, taken up under the Golden Quadrilateral (GQ) projects, by December 2012.Work on four-laning and six-laning of roads has been completed in 5,829 km in the country.The work progress is being monitored closely by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)and striving to speed up the work.

KINFRA to set up SEZ
The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) has obtained approval from the Union Government to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for IT/ITES at the KINFRA Film and Video Park at Kazhakuttam, Thiruvananthapuram. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will henceforth directly monitor the progress of the construction of the Dedicated FreÂight Corridor (DFC), virtually taking the job away from the Railways.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting in February to take stock of the proÂgress, apparently dissatisfied with the role of the Railways which was primarily to monitor the progress of the job, the execution of which had been handed over to the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL).
