CIL supplies more coal to power sector

Tata Power to own Tata BP Solar
Tata Power signed an agreement to acquire 51 percent stake of BP Alternative Energy Holdings, in its solar joint venture, Tata BP Solar. After the purchase, Tata Power will own the entire company. The move comes in the wake of BP's recent decision to exit its solar busiÂness. Tata BP Solar was forÂmed in 1989 to manufacture phoÂÂtoÂvoltaic cells and modules.

Power Min seeks scrapping of import duty on coal

Coal imports estimate
The government estimates say that the country is likely to import 194 million tonne (mt) of coal in 2017, as against 135 mt at present, to meet the demand of the power sector.The government said that the dependence on imported coal would go up. The dependency has increased from 6 percent to 13 percent in the last 5-6 years.

GKEL gets Mega Power status
GMR Kamalanga Energy (GKEL) has executed an agreement for supply of 260 MW to Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) under Case I bidding. With this agreement, GKEL has tied up 85 percent of its power sale under tariff policy. This makes GKEL eligible to avail Mega Power status under the new policy.
