To feed its EuropeĆās plants Tata Steel Minerals Canada (TSML), a joint venture of the Indian steel maker, has secured key permission last week for land use related to its proposed iron ore project in north-eastern Canada.
Toronto-listed New Millennium Iron Corp, Tata SteelĆās 20 per cent strategic partner, said that TSML signed agreement with the appropriate aboriginal council of the south Labrador for the direct shipping ore (DSO) project.

L&T bags Rs 1,500 cr EPC contract from Oman firm
Larsen & Toubro has bagged an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contract worth Rs 1,500 crore from the Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO). The project at the Yibal-Natih gas reservoir in Oman is scheduled to be completed in 39 months. Larsen & Toubro stated this on August 20 in a filing to the BSE. Yibal-Natih is a sweet gas reservoir with recoverable reserves estimated at 90 per cent.
Rs 2,000 cr insurance cover soon to Indian oil refiners
To provide insurance cover to Indian domestic refineries that process crude oil imported from Iran the process of setting up of a Rs 2,000-crore fund has begun by the Union Finance Ministry. The Finance Ministry's act comes after the the Union Petroleum Ministry agreed to provide the required money to being in fund.

Tanzania mandates ECTN for all imports from Sept 1
All import cargoes, including transit cargoes, would be covered by an Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN) in Tanzania from next September 1. Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), which manages ports in the country, has decided so. This decision results from TPAĆās desire to improve control on declared cargo values, the occupation of port facilities and the safety of the ports and the territory, as also to ensure availability of accurate statistics on cargo flows into the country.
New ROB to replace Periyar Nagar bridge in Chennai
In Chennai, a new road over bridge (ROB) is to be constructed across the railway track at Periyar Nagar on the Thiruvanaikovil Trunk Road. The ROB construction is to be taken up by the Tamil Nadu State Highways Department and it is set to call tenders next month for the same. The Rail Vikas Nigam, a public sector undertaking, will construct the Railway portion of the proposed ROB, say sources in the State department.

Govt striving for allocation of coal blocks: Minister
Union Coal Minister, Sriprakash Jaiswal on August 20 said that the government will make every effort to locate and supply the additional documents required by CBI regarding allocation of coal blocks. Coal Ministry has already handed over 769 files and other documents consisting of more than 1,50,000 pages to CBI.
Banks borrow Rs 473.1 bn through MSF window
