Jet ties-up code share with South African Airways
To offer seamless travel to South Africa-bound passengers Jet Airways has entered into a code share arrangement with South African Airways. The code share agreement comes into effect from April 18, a Jet Airways release said in Mumbai on April 16. Code-sharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless transport to multiple destinations where it has no presence.
India to become No 2 in aviation market in a decade
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said recently that India would become the second-largest air traffic market in the world within a decade as the government has adopted an open air policy. Speaking at the official inauguration of the new airport at Nagpur in Maharashtra, named the Dr BR Ambedkar International Airport, he said domestic carriers flew close to 162 million passengers in 2011-12, up from 143 million in 2010-11.

No-frill carrier GoAir will operate direct flights between Srinagar and Mumbai from April 18 for the convenience of passengers in general and tourists particularly. GoAir will operate direct flights between the two cities, Chief Executive Officer of the airline service provider, Giorgio De Roni, said in Jammu on April 17. Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia, which has six airlines under its fold, will be banking heavily on a woman to ensure the success of its impending India launch. AI gives 1st priority to PSUs to lease its real estate assets
Air India is to give preference to State-owned enterprises to lease its 1.7-lakh sq ft office in central Delhi's Baba Kharak Singh Marg. AI's decision is part of its programme to monetise real estate assets. The loss-making and debt laden airline had decided in February to monetise its properties spread over India and various parts of the world over the next three years to raise an estimated Rs 5,000 crore, kick starting the process with its city terminal office at Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

Jet wants to treble seats between India, Abu Dhabi
Jet Airways is pushing hard in favour of the Abu Dhabi government's demand to treble the number of seats flown between the two countries to over 40,000 per week from 13,300 at present. According to government sources, Abu Dhabi has asked for a huge revision in the number of seats used by airlines to fly between the two countries and the negotiations with the Indian government will take place next week in the Emirate.
