Centre not to scrap e-auction
The coal minister has ruled out scrapping of e-auction of coal and indicated that any such move would increase the pithead stock.

Huge coal shortfall estimated in 10 years
The government has admitted that the country would face a huge shortfall of 269 mt of coal by 2021-22 as the coal producing entities had failed to keep pace with the demand as well as economic growth.
CIL hikes coal prices by 15 per cent
Coal India will raise the price of coal on an average by about 15 per cent to bring in some parity between domestic and international prices.
Waterways for coal transport
NTPC has tied up with Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to ensure smooth transportation of coal for the Farraka and Khelgaon projects as the railways network is congested and coal supply can be augmented through use of waterways given that the plants are situated near the Hooghly and the Ganga.
Objecting 26 per cent profit to locals
The coal ministry has objecĆĀted to a proposal to make it mandatory for mining firms to contribute a portion of their profits towards local area develĆĀopment, as it will erode valuaĆĀtion of firms and dampen invesĆĀtor sentiment.
