Maduravoyal-Chennai port road project to get contractor

In Chennai, the elevated road project from Maduravoyal to Chennai port is of great significance in view of the development of a container terminal, the Chennai Port has told the Tamil Nadu High Court. The road project operator will be selected soon and the Letter of Approval is likely to be issued in the first quarter of the financial year, the port said.

Hazira ports plea to Centre to double its capacity

The Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority (GZMA) has recommended to the Union government the proposal of Hazira Port (HPPL) to double LNG terminal capacity to 10 mmtpa. The Authority has recommended in this regard to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) for its clearance. HPPL, is a joint venture between Shell Gas BV-(Shell) and Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France-(Total). Shell holds 74 per cent in the joint venture.

Yachts, boats to get secured marina at Mumbai port

Mumbai Port Trust will provide a secured marina storage place for yacht owners to park their boats and yachts. At present, boats in the sea at Mumbai’s Apollo Bunder are vulnerable to damage and also run a security risk. Now the Mumbai Port Trust is working on the project. Many rich people in Mumbai have expensive yachts which remain unused for long stretches causing wear and tear. The port will also make arrangements for café, restaurants and offices in the proposed marina space.

Gangavaram Port to get 2nd mechanised coal terminal

Under its ongoing expansion programme, Gangavaram Port will be provided an additional fully mechanised coal terminal to handle capsize vessels upto 2,00,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT). The expansion project will be ready in March 2014. Under the project, four berths are now at various stages of construction along with support infrastructure.

New Mlore Port to build 4th berth, invites bids

The New Mangalore Port has called a tender for a fourth berth. The port had added two additional berths in 2006 and 2011 and one more is under completion. Two warehouses are also are under construction in the port. The draft of 14 mtr has also been made available, said P Tamilvanan, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust on August 15. He added that the cargo handling at the port has increased.

The port Chairman GVL Satya Kumar attributed the dip in the cargo handling to fall in intake of iron ore by China, government restrictions on iron ore mining and slump in transshipment of petroleum products and crude during the year.

Coal berth in Chennai Port to become container terminal

The Chennai Port Trust is to convert the Jawahar Dock (East) berth into a small container terminal to handle around 8,00,000 twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) a year. The berth was used to handle coal till a few years back, but has been lying unused after coal handling was shifted to Ennore port. The port's proposal for a Rs 4,200-crore mega container terminal failed to attract good response from potential bidders recently.

JNPT to build a new liquid terminal at Rs 1,800 cr

Media reports say that Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India's largest container port, is to build Rs 1,800 crore new liquid terminal. JNPT is to build the terminal through public-private-partnership route. The port's Deputy Chairman N N Kumar said that the Port Trust has finalised plans to build the terminal having a capacity of 15 million tonne per annum and it will needed an investment of Rs 1,600-1,800 crore.
