For developing Rs 1,270-crore container terminal at Ennore Port in Tamil Nadu, 11 companies, including four foreign firms, have submitted their Requests for Qualification (RFQ) proposals. These proposals will be evaluated by Ennore Port authorities and the names of short-listed firms announced within the next two weeks. Thursday was the last date for submitting the proposals for developing the Ennore Container Terminal (ECT).

Lankan port transshipment comprises 62% of Indian cargo
Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has stated that cargo to and from India accounts for 62 per cent of Colombo portÂ’s transshipment business. SLPA's Chairman Priyath Bandu Wickrama said that at present, Colombo is handling 16 per cent of IndiaÂ’s transshipment of 10 million TEU, but it hopes to increase it to 23 per cent, given the portÂ’s expansion plans. Ennore Port in TN gets 11 bids to build new terminal
For building a Rs 1,270 crore container loading facility the Ennore Port in Tamil Nadu received 11 initial bids from private groups. The deadline for submitting the bids ended on July 25. Ennore Port is IndiaÂ’s only Union government-controlled port that is run as a company; the others operate as trusts. The new terminal will have a capacity to load 1.4 million standard containers a year from a berth length of 730 metre.

DCI to deploy dredgers to Ennore port
The Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) was scheduled to commission the second of its three 5,500 cubic metre Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs) at Chennai port on July 26. The dredger will then be deployed for projects at Ennore port, DCI Chairman-cum-Managing Director DK Mohanty said on July 5. The first dredger is already at Ennore and now the two 5,500 cubic metre TSHDs will be in operation at port to complete the dredging by the end of October.
