In Uttarakhand, it will take at least 3-4 months to rebuild highways damaged by the recent floods. All national and state highways in the Garhwal region have been damaged with road-owing agencies reporting at least 100 stretches impacted by landslides, breaches or submergence. Several bailey bridges and steel girder bridges have also been washed away.

Action against road contractors for substandard quality
Contractors in Kerala who failed to repair roads, that are damaged before the guarantee period, will be blacklisted, the Kerala government has said. Ports and Fisheries Minister K Babu asked contractors to repair the roads at the earliest. The minister also directed authorities to complete the rehabilitation of people who have suffered losses in the landslide at Kadvoor near Kothamangalam last year.
NIA probing into discontinuation of road works
In Chhattisgarh, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is looking into reasons for sudden discontinuation of road construction and widening work on the Tongpal-Darbha stretch, the road that passes through Jhiram Ghati, a month before the Congress leaders were ambushed by Maoists. The agency has asked National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to furnish a list of all contractors and workers involved in the construction and widening works on National Highways 30 and 63 for scrutiny.
Gujarat’s Sir Creek to get 10-km road
In Gujarat, to help forces tackle the difficult terrain of Sir Creek, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has agreed to build a 10-km stretch of road on marshy land. It will connect border post (BP) number 1175 to 1170. Though there are motorable roads to BP 1175, there is no connectivity between BP 1175 and BP 1131. The distance is 70 km and the area remains unmanned.

DMRC to work on Kochi’s MG Road for metro rail
In Kochi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has finalised plans to begin work on the city's heart line, MG Road, starting next weekend (June 29-30). While work is expected to start in the right earnest only after the Onam festival, the Metro agency will carry out the preparatory work during weekends till September on the stretch.
DMRC has sought the permission to close down the stretch on MG Road between Padma Junction and Abad Plaza hotel on June 29-30 to physically trace utility lines.

Nagpur civic body to use new tech for road digging
To reduce damages to dug up roads in its purview the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is to adopt a technology called 'Horizontal Drilling Direction' (HDD) to cut roads. It will check subsequent deterioration of dug up roads, NMC has said. The new technology will cause less damage to the road surface. In Nagpur, the road overbridge (ROB) near GaosiManapur is expected to be complete in a month or so. Once it is completed commuters can hope for reduction in heavy traffic inside the city at night. The outer ring road (ORR) stretch linking Gondkhairi on Amravati Road and GaosiManapur on Wardha Road is complete except for a 150-foot span over the railway line.
