The Jammu and Kashmir government on May 29 threw open three bridges constructed to smoothen traffic mobility in Srinagar. The State Minister for Roads and Buildings Abdul Majid Wani dedicated the bridges to people of the Valley on the national highway bypass connecting Pantha-Chowk with Baramulla national highway, incurring a cumulative amount of Rs 26.75 crore.

NHAI’s plea to govt for recast of premium payment
National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), IndiaĆās nodal road development agency, has warned that almost Rs 98,000 crore of premium revenue from highway builders is in jeopardy after its proposal to reschedule the premium payments due from road developers was turned down by the Union Law Ministry.
Norms to be relaxed for road developers in Naxal-hit areas
The Union government has decided to relax norms for road developers in extremist-hit states such as Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in view of security threat and slow execution of projects in these areas, an official said. The development follows completion of barely 2,300 km of roads in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas till date out of proposed 5,477 km till 2012.
Greater Noida expressway to remain toll-free
The 23 km-long Noida-Greater Noida expressway will continue to be toll-free. The decision was taken at a joint board meeting on May 27. Residents in the two cities were opposed to the proposal for charging toll on the e-way. Commuters, who have been getting a free passage for more than 10 years, were worried that their monthly expenses would shoot up if toll was levied.
Banks to fund road projects if NHAI readies 80% land
If the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) made available at least 80 per cent of the land for public-private partnership (PPP) road projects, banks can now start lending. Till now, banks had been insisting that the developers take complete control of the land before getting funds.
NHAI wants PMO’s help to save relinquished road projects
The Prime Minister's Office help has been sought by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for salvaging projects abandoned by the developers and starting those projects that have found no takers till now. The Authority's missive comes even as the government has deferred a much-awaited decision to resuscitate stalled highway projects by allowing an easier exit option for road developers.
Vinci Construction in talks to acquire Indian road concessions
FranceĆās Vinci Construction India head Thomas Bigueure, has said that the company is in talks with at least one infrastructure firm to acquire its concession. He added that the company is looking at acquiring the concessions of those developers who are looking to exit from road projects. It is an indication of revival of interest in Indian roads sector.
Work on Kochi’s Edappally flyover to begin in 4 months
In Kerala's Kochi city, work on the Edappally flyover will begin in four months, the State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. All the paper work would be ready in two weeksĆā time. The State government would formulate a special package to overcome hurdles in acquiring land for infrastructure projects, Chandy said. The package will include relaxing of building rules for those who surrender land free of cost.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the implementation of the project of 4-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima section from 124.1 km to 172.9 km of NH-39, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in Delhi. This project is under the special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in North Eastern Region, he said.
