The Union government has decided to relax norms for road developers in extremist-hit states such as Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in view of security threat and slow execution of projects in these areas, an official said. The development follows completion of barely 2,300 km of roads in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas till date out of proposed 5,477 km till 2012.

Greater Noida expressway to remain toll-free
The 23 km-long Noida-Greater Noida expressway will continue to be toll-free. The decision was taken at a joint board meeting on May 27. Residents in the two cities were opposed to the proposal for charging toll on the e-way. Commuters, who have been getting a free passage for more than 10 years, were worried that their monthly expenses would shoot up if toll was levied.

Work on Kochi’s Edappally flyover to begin in 4 months
In Kerala's Kochi city, work on the Edappally flyover will begin in four months, the State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. All the paper work would be ready in two weeksÂ’ time. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the implementation of the project of 4-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima section from 124.1 km to 172.9 km of NH-39, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in Delhi. This project is under the special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in North Eastern Region, he said.

NHAI not in favour of PPP mode for road projects
