Indore Development Authority (IDA) has once again sent a request to the Madhya Pradesh government to reconsider and keep the width of road to 18 metre against the proposed 24 metre in the master plan. The IDA's request follows as it is unable to get sufficient land and remove encroachments coming in the way of the proposed LIG link road.

HC asks NHAI to explain stand on encroachments
In Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has expressed concern over rampant encroachment along the national highway on the 15-km stretch from the engineering college on Sitapur Road to the Barabanki border on Faizabad Road. The high court on April 2 issued a notice to the National Highway Authority of India for reply and fixed April 9 for next hearing.

Nod to develop 471 km highways at Rs 4,618 cr
Four proposals to widen a total of 471 km of highways have been approved by the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The proposed road works require an investment of Rs 4,618 crore. The projects are Jabalpur-Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Demow-Bogibil, Jorhat-Demow and Numaligarh-Jorhat.

Cabinet clears Rs 46 bn worth highway projects
The Rs 2,686 crore Jabalpur-Bhopal road widening project in Madhya Pradesh received the approval of the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs recently. The 294-km road project would be taken up on a build-operate-transfer – (BOT-toll) basis. This means the project developer will invest in widening the road and collect toll revenues over the concession period. Chennai to have 45-km elevated road to ease traffic jams
To ease traffic congestion in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on April 1 announced a slew of road projects, including an elevated road between Taramani and Mamallapuram. Srinagar’s Pantha Chowk-Sempora road to be widened
Srinagar District Development Commissioner Farooq Ahmad Shah on April 1 convened a meeting of officers for the immediate widening of National Highway from Pantha Chowk to Sempora in Srinagar. Discussions were held for expediting the widening of National highway at Pantha Chowk besides the removal of encroachments and other bottle necks including popular trees and shifting of utilities across the road.

IVRCL sells highway projects in TN to TRIL Roads
Hyderabad-based IVRCL has monetised three road tollways by selling stake to TRIL Roads, a Tata Group company. The deal, covering all the three projects in Tamil Nadu, is estimated at Rs 2,200 crore. This stake sale agreement is part of the Hyderabad-based infrastructure company IVRCLÂ’s Strategic Business Plan to monetise its build, operate and transfer (BOT) road assets.

A crucial river-bridge on NH-6 near Kolaghat, approximately 70 km from Kolkata, was completed on April 1. Developed by the Mumbai-based Ashoka Buildcon, the 1.2-km bridge over Roopnarayan River was a Golden Quadrilateral project undertaken by National Highways Authority of India in 2001.

Blore’s MG Road boulevard to be ready by this month-end
In Bangalore, the MG Road boulevard which is being reconstructed by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) will be thrown open to public by the end of this April.
