Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will spend Rs 622 crore on the extended Mumbai urban infrastructure projects, mainly in Thane district. It will build six flyovers, a creek-bridge at Vasai between Naigaon and Bhayendar and over 90-km of road network in Vasai, Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, Karjat , Badlapur and Arnala.

Centre to set up road regulatory authority
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on March 28 announced the proposal to set up a road regulatory authority to address issues such as financial stress, construction risk and contract management in the sector.
The Minister said the independent regulatory authority will be set up in 2014 to address all issues faced by the road sector.
Kerala opposes development of 5 NHs
The Kerala government is not willing to develop five National Highways (NH) in the state that are included in the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) Phase IVA and imposing toll on them. The State has informed the same to the Union government.
Widening of key highway started in Srinagar
Gearing up to fulfill his commitment of bringing an end to traffic jams at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, a key highway stretch to south Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Shah on March 27 got widening work started, an official spokesman said. He said the DDC directed to take up the widening work in the Sempora stretch, which witnesses frequent traffic jams.

The Government has approved six foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals worth over Rs 732 crore based on the Foreign Investment Promotion BoardÂ’s recommendations. The two largest proposals notified by the Finance Ministry include Hyderabad-based Navayuga Road ProjectsÂ’ plans to make downstream investments in its Special Purpose Companies worth Rs 357.60 crore and SIDBI Social Venture TrustÂ’s submission to bring in foreign investment worth Rs 285 crore by allotting some units of the Fund.

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that a proposed tunnel on the Mughal Road between Zaznar and Chattapani to keep the road open round the year, was under survey. A tunnel is proposed on the 84-km Bafliaz-Shopain road between Zaznar and Chattapani to keep the road open round the year, the State Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majeed Wani, said in the Legislative Council in Jammu on March 25.

The 14 PPP projects would bring in an additional capacity of 80 mn t per annum at an investment of Rs 5,600 crore
