Tendering for the first ´smart, theme city´ project of the West Bengal government is expected to begin next month. Of the six proposed cities, bidding process will begin with the one at Baruipur (some 30 km west of Kolkata). Baruipur is being themed as a senior citizen´s city.

The highways ministry is planning to connect Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand with 889 km of disaster-proof two-lane roads at a cost of Rs 12,000 cr. Detailed project reports are reportedly in the final stages and the ministry is likely to invite bids for road stretches in October.
