To reduce the burden on Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Union government has decided to take back several road projects from it and help it focus on border areas. BRO's prime task is developing and maintaining 'strategic roads' in border areas.

Flyover construction opposed in Aurangabad
Opposing the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation's (MSRDC) move to construct a flyover at the Mundha naka on Jalna road in Aurangabad, activists of the Mundha Naka Uddanpul Virodhi Nagri Kruti Samiti staged demonstrations on December 4.
Punjab to widen Sangrur-Khanouri road at Rs 600 cr
The Punjab government is to expand the 60 km long Sangrur-Khanouri road into four-lanes at Rs 600 crore, mainly to strengthen road connectivity with Delhi area for Malwa region in the state. The road expansion is expected to strengthen the infrastructure in Punjab. The road lead to New Delhi through Haryana.
Chandigarh UT plans bridge on Chandigarh-Mullanpur road
A clover bridge is being planned on the busy Chandigarh-Mullanpur road by the Chandigarh Union Territory (UT) aadministration to ease congestion. A clover bar bridge is usually built across rivers with at least three lanes to carry huge traffic. Such type of bridges were constructed abroad as back as early 70s.
Work on Mumbai coastal road may begin by Dec 2014
The 35 km Mumbai coastal road project worth Rs Rs 8,000 crore is likely to be put on the fast track and work on the ambitious road project is expected to begin by December next year. The road will run from Nariman Point to Kandivli, and aimed at easing the traffic congestion in western Mumbai.
Agencies told to give a facelift to road medians
With initiative of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) medians on Hubli roads have finally got the much-needed facelift. To ease traffic movement in Hublic city's major roads HDMC had built medians on the roads seven years back through 10 private agencies on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.
Residents oppose toll booth in Bantwal
Opening of road toll booth at Brahmarakotlu in Bantwal taluk in Karnataka is being opposed by the residents in the taluk and they warned the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that they will intensify their protest if the NHAI opens the road toll without stopping the Panemangalore bridge toll collection.

In Andhra Pradesh, for widening of the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam highway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will take a decision within a couple of weeks on the contract awarded to Hyderabad-based Madhucon Constructions.
Sonia launches 50 road projects in Rae Bareli
Congress party president Sonia Gandhi has granted more than 50 road projects, bank branches, one FM station and a rail project to her Parliament constituency Rae Bareli. The rail project is to come up between Rae Bareli and Akbarpur. Only a week ago, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi inaugurated key railway projects in the constituency.
Bhubaneswar plans flyover in mishap zone
To ease traffic burden on the highway stretch between Kolathia Square and Khandagiri Square in Bhubaneswar, the city police have discussed with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and proposed to build a flyover on the stretch. The development takes place following an accident on December 1, om which three were killed.
