The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval to three major highway projects. Briefing the media in Delhi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government has given its nod to the four-laning of the 80 kilometre long Phagwara-Rupnagar section of NH-344A in Punjab at a cost of Rs.1,444 crore, in Hybrid Annuity Mode. It has also approved four-laning of 151 kilometre Angul-Sambalpur section of NH-42, which is the New NH-55 in Odisha.
The project will cost around Rs.2,500 crore. Besides, four-laning of the 87 kilometre Aurangabad-Telwadi section of NH-211 in Maharashtra has also been approved at an estimated cost of over Rs.2,028 crore. Prime Minister Modi has said that the approval of road projects will help improve infrastructure and connectivity and help uplifting socioeconomic conditions.
