Gas Authority of India's (GAIL) pipeline from Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh to Haldia in West Bengal via Jharkhand is going to be a boon for the closed Sindri fertiliser factory, other industries and domestic consumers on the line. The pipeline will provide fuel to run the plant, which was closed a decade ago. The Sindri plant has adequate land for starting the three million tonne per annum (MTPA) unit. The pipeline is to cover 800 km from Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh to Haldia in West Bengal.
Survey for the Rs 7,596-crore project has been done and planned to be completed withÂin a year and work on it is liÂkely to begin in March-April 2012. It will pass through Barahi, Barachati, Girdih, Bokaro and Sindri before entering West Bengal. It will cover aroÂund 200 km in JharÂkhand. The gas will also help in running vehicles that in turn will cut vehicular pollution in urban areas of the state.
