The Goa Minister of Environment and Forests Alina Saldanha has raised doubts over the environmental safety of the marina projects, planned by the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT). The marina contracts have been given to Chowgule and Kharagwal groups. Last week the Port Trust had claimed that it was satisfied with the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) submitted by the marina promoters.
However, the Goa government said that it would not consider MPT’s privately engaged EIA. The EIA do not reflect the position of the Goa government and statutory authorities of the State, the Ministry said.
Responding to the MPTÂ’s planned Marina plans at Sancoale and the claim that they were ecologically benign, the Goa Ministry of Environment and Forests said on August 29 that views expressed by the project promoters and their privately engaged EIA consultants on the subject do not reflect the position of the Goa government at all.
