As a major initiative that could cut short the bidding process of highway projects by two months, NHAI's scheme for annual pre-qualification of bidders has received a huge response. Sources in NHAI said over 110 national and international potential bidders had submitted their documents including most of the major firms in the highway construction sector had submitted their documents for one time annual qualification. NHAI had notified the new request for annual qualification (RFAQ) for bidders. Under this initiative, instead of submitting documents every time for different highway projects, they will now be qualified for one calendar year. This is likely to reduce burden of developers and will leave no scope for disqualifying developers on frivolous grounds.
The Authority has the revised target of awarding at least 7,300 km of national highways in the current fiscal. Sources said this singe initiative would expedite the awarding of more projects in the near future.
