In a welcome move, Central Jail authorities have permitted Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) to start its work on jail land even though land transfer is yet to take place. Mayor Pravin Datke thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds the Home portfolio, for the order, which will ensure that Metro rail work is not delayed.
A letter issued by YD Desai, Superintendent of Nagpur Central Jail, stated in a letter to Managing Director of NMRCL that as per telephonic instructions of Additional Director General (prisons), the jail was giving permission to carry on work.
The letter from the official further stated that it might take some time before the government issues an order transferring jail land to NMC for the road and viaduct and this activity could affect Metro rail work.
