Minister of Ports for Kerala K Babu informed that his government complete the work on the national waterway from Kottappuram to Kovalam soon.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event, the minister affirmed that the government was fully committed to the development of water transportation in the state.

He said the state government gave utmost importance to waterways as part of developing coastal shipping in the state.

For the transport of goods through waters, the state initiated steps to introduce a coastal shipping policy, he said. The government will provide incentives to users in this sector in order to promote coastal transportation, he said.

The state government is at present carrying out cargo movement from Vizhinjam, Kovalam, Ponnani, Beypore and Azhikal through the waterways, he added.

The state government would remove Chinese nets in the waters in order to develop the waterways.

The state government, meanwhile, completed hydrographic survey at Ashtamudi, Alappuzha, Kumarakom, Bolghatty and Bekkal for the proposed sea plane project.
