Kerala govt to take up Rs100 bn road projects

The Kerala state cabinet cleared the proposed road or flyover projects across the state under an ambitious Rs 10,000-crore programme.

The state government would create a Road Development Fund Board to undertake the projects. The board would implement the projects by taking loan, which would be guaranteed by the state government.

The project includes setting up of flyovers, which are totally toll-free, at Palarivattom, Vytilla, Kundanoor and Kalamaserry Apollo junction in the Edapally-Aroor stretch of the National Highway.

Recently, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced a special scheme on the eve of the UDF governmentÂ’s second anniversary. The proposed flyover projects will be part of this scheme.

The cabinet also approved the draft consultancy pact with the DMRC for the monorail projects. The cabinet has also decided to sanction Rs 1.5 crore as a contingency fund to the health department to buy 250 fogging machines for local bodies.
