The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will be approached by the Kochi Corporation and ask it for designs of flyovers planned at Edappally, Vyttila and Palarivattom junctions in the city limits. Mayor Tony Chammany informed the council that he would take up the issue with NHAI project director CT Abraham.
He said that the flyovers are coming up on roads owned by NHAI, and they can take decisions regarding constructions on their property. But these structures fall under corporation limits and will have a direct impact on its residents. Hence, we will ask NHAI to present their designs before the council, he added. The decision was taken following demands by councillors that the local body should be kept informed and updated on developments taking place in the city.
At the council meeting, held on Thursday, opposition councillors pointed out that various agencies involved in executing large-scale development projects ignored consulting the corporation. They said the mayor as well as chairmen of standing committees were clueless about the progress of various projects going on in Kochi.
