Media reports suggest that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is checking status of the ongoing highway projects with the project developers.
The move by NHAI is intended to ensure that no more developer exit from his road project like the way GMR Infrastructure and GVK Infrastructure withdrew from their high profile projects recently.
In early January, GMR Infrastructure walked out of the Rs 7,200-crore Kishangarh-Udaipur-Ahmedabad road project, for which it had bid to pay NHAI an annual premium of Rs 636 crore.
Later, GVK Infrastructure withdrew from its Rs 3,200-crore Shivpuri-Dewas project it had won in January 2012. Both companies had cited issues around environment clearances as their reason for pulling out.
It is learnt that NHAI has been urging developers not to abandon projects and complete the contract.
